WHY IS A WATER CONDENSATING ON TRIPLE PANE WINDOWS FROM OUTSIDE IN THE MORNING?

When the sun rises in the morning, the upward movement of air layers activates around the house as the air gradually gets warmer. When moving up, the warm and humid air touches the surface of the triple pane window, which still has the temperature of the outdoor air at night (it is lower than the temperature of the upward air). As a result, conditions favourable to sweating (dew formation) are created. It is possible only because the triple pane window retains the heat insulation resistance long and efficiently enough, and the window starts to sweat, although after a certain time, when the ambient temperature balances out, the dew disappears. It is a peculiar characteristic of good windows. It is just a temporary phenomenon and does not have negative consequences.

For condensation to build up on the outer window pane, the following five conditions are needed:

  • low U-value rating of a window;
  • a clear night sky;
  • a clear view of the sky;
  • high humidity;
  • calm weather or only a slight breeze.
